Alias
|
Alias is a publishing company based in San Diego, California that is dedicated to bringing the world of comics to the world beyond the comic aquarium. Sure, as comic fans, we all love comics, it goes without saying. But there is a world of non-comic fans out there that would enjoy comics if they only knew they existed. And we don’t just mean in a ‘oh, there are comics, but they’re just for kids’ way. Although we do think that comics should reach as wide an audience as possible, comics are not ‘just for kids’. But rather in a, ‘I didn’t know there were *that* kind of comics’, way. Be it fantasy, all-ages, horror, sci-fi, action-adventure, western, etc. and yes, even superheroes, we intend to cover every genre out there to reach as many readers as possible. How do we achieve this? By partnering with multiple studios and individual creators who have a heart for each of their own particular genres. Each studio or individual creator has dedicated their time and resources toward producing the best comics for their genre, and the end result is a publishing company with a diversity that will be unmatched in the comic world. |

Martin Goodman was pissed. The founder of Marvel Comics, recently retired from magazine publishing and fat with cash from the 1970 sale of the "House of Ideas" to Cadence Industries for millions of dollars, wanted to exact revenge from the new owners for their reneging on a promise to keep Martin's ne'er-do-well son, Charles "Chip" Goodman, installed as Marvel's editorial director. The comic book mogul's solution? Go head-to-head with the publisher of Spider-Man, et al., and initiate all-out war in the comic book marketplace-raiding the Big Two's talent pool; luring creators with promises of higher page rates, return of original artwork, and (gasp!) sharing character ownership; and even appropriating the "look and feel" of Stan Lee's line of top-selling super-hero books (going as far as reviving the pre-Marvel name of Martin's former imprint, Atlas Comics)-and the spoils of battle in the comic world would go to the victor, assuredly one, he doubtlessly hoped, with the surname Goodman. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way and the company vanished very quickly. Seen as little more than a footnote in comics history this company has long gone the way of the dodo. It does however draw interesting paralell's with Crossgen Comics. |

It's present day, and Archangel Michael is fed up with the pathetic development of the human species. The angels, in their world high above ours, have been given the choice between destroying or preserving humanity. This will be decided by having "Plus Checkers" looking for good points and "Minus Checkers" looking for bad points, and whichever finds 10,000 points first decides the outcome. Chihaya and Kagetsuya are angels who have known each other since their days at military school in Eden, and having taken up opposing sides of this "good vs. bad points" checking system, are teamed together during their stay on Earth. However, Chihaya is unusual even by angelic standards—he has black hair, eyes and wings. He's one-of-a-kind, unusually powerful in spite of his naive demeanor (much to Kagetsuya's dismay), but set apart from his angel kin...until the Black Cancer strikes the heavenly population, darkening the wings and hair of its victims before spiraling them down into painful death. Tension builds among the angels and between Chihaya and Kagetsuya in particular, and it looks as if the secrets to the salvation or destruction of both Earth and Eden may lie with Chihaya himself. |

When Image's comics debuted to record-setting sales, its status was secured, and the company has been one of the top three publishers in the industry since its inception.Image has played a major role in the evolution of graphic storytelling by publishing innovative creator-owned works like McFarlane's Spawn, Larsen's Savage Dragon, Silvestri's Witchblade and many others. As a home to some of the top creators in the industry, Image boasts such properties as comics scribe/director Kevin Smith's Bluntman and Chronic, Ultimate Spider-Man writer Brian Michael Bendis,s award-winning Powers, and white-hot artist Michael Avon Oeming's Bulletproof Monk. Image has also created comics, graphic novels, toys, and other projects with famous creators outside the comics industry, including best-selling horror author Clive Barker and Academy Award-winning special effects producer Stan Winston.
